Pizza dough

THIS GIVEAWAY IS CLOSED
WINNER:  reluctant writer

For several years now, too many to count, we have had homemade pizza once a week.  My 2nd daughter, Mandie, starting at a young age, would be in charge of the pizza making.  Now that she is grown and married, I am once again the pizza chef.  Every Saturday I don't have to think and wonder, "What should I make for supper tonight?"  We have never tired of our weekly pizza.

Today I share our pizza dough recipe.  It is very simple, yet delicious:
This recipe makes 2 large pizzas

2 Cups warm water
1 package dry active yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon oil

Mix water, yeast, salt, sugar and oil.
Add flour 1 cup at a time until a soft dough is formed
Knead 10 minutes.
Divide in half.
Rise a minimum of 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 500 degrees
Roll each piece into 16" circle
place on greased pizza pan

add sauce, cheese and toppings of your choice.

Bake for 10 minutes in a preheated 500 degree oven.  Enjoy!

I began using King Arthur flour when my fourth child, now 16, was born.  We discovered 6 weeks after his birth that he had some allergies.  This began my interest in the processing of foods.  I searched and read about the food that I fed my family.  To my disgust, I was ignorantly feeding them many fillers, chemicals, additives and preservatives.  Now to find better ingredients.  This search led me to King Arthur flour.  Milled naturally, never bleached.....WHAT? other flours are bleached!!!!  I never knew :/
Not only is it all natural,  it is made in America, in the state of Vermont.  Which is local for me :)

Celebrating their 220 year birthday on September 10, 2010 (join them in Norwich, VT for a b-day bash), King Arthur is America's oldest flour company, founded in 1790.  They are committed to bringing everyday bakers the highest quality baking products.  Employee owned, they take pride in every item that leaves the facility.  As stated on the website:  "Our employees have a stake in what we do, and it shows in every bag of flour."

Surf on over to King Arthur's website and you will find a wonderful array of information and products to use in your kitchen.  This website is loaded with not only great products to purchase, but recipes, a tour of the facilities, tools for the kitchen, secrets to great baking and oh, so much more.

Here's your chance to win for yourself a 5# bag of King Arthur Unbleached All Purpose Flour to use in one of their fabulous recipes or even one of your own.  All you have to do is leave a comment (or 2 or 3) sharing what you will be surprising your family with using your winnings.   Be sure to also leave contact information (email, phone, facebook) so if you are the winner I can contact you.  Winner will also receive 2 issues of King Arthur's subscription baking newsletter, The Baking Sheet.

Every 'follower' that I have contact information on will automatically be entered..so if you are already a 'follower' AND leave a comment, you have doubled your chances on being the BIG winner!

Drawing will take place on Wednesday, August 25th.

  5. My pizza dough recipe is similar to this, but I will try yours. I have used King Arthur flour for so long I can't remember, it is the best and you oftentimes do not need to use a full cup when called for. I probably would make pizza with it, we do pizza a lot.
Fun pizza if you have lots of tomatoes--from my daughter.
Do the crust, then take fresh tomatoes, poke a couple of slits in them and gently squeeze out some of the juice and seeds. This is not as necessary if you have roma-type. Slice them about 1/2 inch thick and cover your pizza crust(takes a lot), then cheese, then toppings. So fresh, so good.
I really look forward now to this every day. Linda
