Educational Product Review and Giveaway from Hands of a Child

CONGRATULATIONS TO
CHRISTINA F
THE WINNER OF THIS
GREAT PROJECT PACK!

Have you ever heard of lapbooks?  If you haven't then you've just discovered  the thing that will turn your homeschool day from drudgery of textbooks to an exciting adventure! If you have an hands-on, crafty-type child lapbooks will bring a smile to their sweet face.

I discovered lapbooks around 6 years ago.  Hands of a Child (HOAC) had a free Lapbook Project Pack on butterflies. At that time my 6 year old daughter just LOVED butterflies.  So we studied butterflies and I fell in love with lapbooking :)  Lapbooks are basically taking the information you learn, breaking it down into categories, recording the info on shaped "mini" books and organizing all  into a folded file folder.  Sounds complicated, but it really isn't.
Here is our Butterfly lapbook:  (HOAC has updated their  Lapbook Project Pack on butterflies since we made ours)

HOAC has come up with a huge line of more than 200 Lapbook Project Packs for every subject imaginable.  The Arts, Science, Government, Geography, History, Holidays, Language Arts, Literature, Math, Science, Social Studies and MORE.  These Project Packs come in many varieties: printed book, ebook  CD, and printed book/CD combo. Each Project Pack includes instructions for making the file folder that will hold all the mini books. There is also information or questions to put into your mini books.  Project Packs also include background information on the topic, recommended resources list (like books and/or websites), and templates for the mini books. The only other things you will need to make your lapbook is  a colored file folder, colored paper for copying the mini-book templates,  glue, and scissors.
They also provide "Kit Packs" .  For those without access to a copier, or you just don't want to take the time to copy the templates,  " Kit Packs provide all the graphics for the unit
printed on multiple colors of paper ready to be used by your student. Just fill in their answers, cut and fold. No copying needed" (quoted from HOAC website)
I have used lapbooks for my students from ages 6 - teen.  We did a study on the Iditarod one year.  We used lapbooks to record what we had learned.   I had a 16 year old, 14 year old, 10 year old and 6 year old all making one.  Each one was unique in it's own way.  We absolutely love going back and looking over our lapbooks.  It's a great review and a wonderful way to show others what you've learned.
HOAC has done an amazing job putting together their website.  It is easy to navigate.  You can see samples before you buy.  They have broken down their Project Packs into subjects and grade levels. If you still can't find what you are looking for, the search engine will help.  But still can't find what you want, they offer a service to custom make a Project Pack on a subject of your choice.

Over the years I have become a "lapbook queen" even to the point of making up my own.  Here is one that my son did for his grammar lessons:

This was a wonderful review tool
