CONGRATULATIONS GOES TO
MARY
ENJOY YOUR SOAP NUTS!
I was totally intrigued by this product: SOAP NUTS!
First what ARE Soap Nuts?
- They are simply a dried fruit -- 100% totally natural.
- They are organically grown and are free of harsh chemicals, so they are incredibly gentle. (This makes them especially great for those with sensitive skin — including babies and those that suffer from allergies, eczema, and psoriasis).
- They’re totally biodegradeable, so they’re better for the environment than regular detergent.
- They’re antimicrobial, so they’re even good for septic and greywater systems.
- They are low-sudsing -- exactly what you need for HE (or high-efficiency) washers
OK you say, very nice information! What can I use these for? Food, feeding to the squirrels, hmmmm...tell me what?
Well.....this is one of those products that is multi-purpose! Multi-cleaning purposes that is! Not food for people or your favorite furry animal. But cleaning for anything in your house! This versatile little nut can clean a multitude of items. Check them out here
So far I have used these "nuts" in my laundry, dishwasher and wiping down the frig and counters. And it really does clean. I was skeptical, but no more!
The website tells me if used solely for laundry, I can get 150 -200 loads of laundry out of this 500g bag at a cost of $22.00. You do the math with the detergent you currently use and see if you can save!
If you don't think you'll save $$$$$ (which I doubt) then you can help protect the environment. Now I'm not all about "save the earth!" I believe that God is in charge of that! BUT He has instructed us to take care of what He has made blessed us with. Eco-friendly products are one way I can do that.
I said I wiped down the frig and counters with it. So, did I take a nut and walk around the house and wipe stuff with it? Now that would solidify to my children that I really have lost it! NO, I am losing my mind, but c'mon, did you really think that? I made a Soap Nut liquid according to the instructions on the back of the bag which reads:
Boil approximately 10-12 whole soap nuts with 6 cups of water for 30 minutes. When it is boiled down, you will have about 4c. of liquid left. Add extra water, if needed, to keep it at that amount. When cooled, remove the soap nuts, and pour it into an airtight plastic or glass jar. It is better to make the liquid in smaller batches as it can spoil.
You can also freeze it in ice cube trays as well. Depending on the size of each ice cube, use two or three per load of laundry. If each ice cube holds about 1Tbsp, use two ice cubes.
Are you intrigued by this product as I was? If so, you can win a 500g bag!

Oh, by the way...didn't enter your other giveaway because I don't homeschool, but if you're looking for another fun way to reinforce the geography, a fun online geography game at www.freepoverty.org. A friend of my kids came over--before he started he didn't even know where the United States was (my kids we've gone over geography with). After 10 minutes of playing that he could show you where China, the United States, Italy, and the Empire States building was (and was getting better on the rest).
Another fun one that my kids love is GeoWorld on Facebook. It teaches you international flags and has you guess the country by shape. It had a point out the city/landmark game too, but it's so small my kids have trouble with it. I do like that it shows pictures of the landmarks too...which gives them a little cultural reference.
