Top 10 crummiest gifts
Black Friday... Cyber Monday... You know it's that time of year when the shopping days have their own names. The spirit of giving is alive and well this holiday season, despite economic hardships. But don't let the excitement and generosity cloud your gift-giving judgement. The slightly selfish shopping advisers at the Daily Top 10 have compiled a list of what not to give this holiday season.
1. Wallet
Yes, it sounds like a nice gift, but it's more like a reminder of what a person doesn't have. Who really has that much money to put into a wallet right now, especially after buying presents?
I'd take this wallet happily!
2. Wreath
If someone wanted to have a wreath on Christmas, wouldn't they already have one by now? Unless you are an excellent judge of a person's tastes, the wreath you want to buy is not necessarily what is on that person's mind. Not everyone like the ones made from wine corks or silver-painted plastic leaves.
hmm...don't think anyone would actually buy this ugly thing...
3. Pre-wrapped gift
Could almost be considered a gag gift. Pre-wrapped gifts make the statement, "Not only did I want to give you something you won't use and that will most like break if you try to use it, but I also didn't feel like wrapping it, either. Merry Christmas."
I'll take any gift, pre-wrapped, NOT wrapped! Doesn't matter to me :)
4. Snow globe
Snow globes have a become a gift cliche. Unless you collect them, you probably don't have much use for one. Even kids' fascination with them only lasts for a few minutes. If you get a small, heavy box that makes liquid sounds when you shake it, you can almost bet you have a snow globe.
Seeing that I HATE snow....yea, I agree it IS a lousy gift
5. Shoes
Do you know your friends' shoe sizes? Even if they are for family, each shoe brand has a different fit, making it almost certain that the shoes you bought will have to be returned for another size. This becomes even more complicated if they were ordered through the mail or Internet.
Please, please give me the receipt for these....seriously???
6. Fruitcake
Just because a person likes fruitcake, it does not mean that he or she will like yours. Of course, the person receiving the fruitcake will be polite about it, but spare them the forced smiles and faked excitement.
7. Hygiene products
Toothbrushes, dental floss, deodorants, soaps -- they seem like nice stocking stuffers. On the other hand, they often leave the recipient wondering if you are trying to send them a message.
8. Christmas ornament
Great, something else to put into storage when all of this is over ... something that won't be seen again or used for a whole year ... something that will most likely break by the time it's used again.
9. Gas card
Still not that bad of a gift, but prepare yourself for a smart aleck comment, such as, "Thanks. You know, I could have used one of these when gas was $4 a gallon."
Our future!
10. Quesadilla maker
Kitchen appliances make great gifts. Fire-engine-red kitchen appliances that take up a lot of space and do little else than make quesadillas do not necessarily make great gifts. Basically, this is a good gift for the person who loves quesadillas but does not like making them in a skillet and has plenty of unused space in their fire-engine-red kitchen.
Honey, have you seen our red quesadilla maker?
hehe. Good stuff - I wouldn't mind getting a wallet - but ONLY if it was stuffed with money.

Got the biggest laugh over these...except I have given wallets as gifts...but I knew the persons needed them, so it was a good gift at the time.
ReplyDeleteIt was funny anyway.
Enjoyed the list!! Son actually asked for a gas gift card, but he drives a Cadillac (older model, what was he thinking when he wanted it a few years ago??)
ReplyDeleteWe used to get my MIL ornaments as presents, but she and FIL had everything and it was impossible to buy for them and she liked decorating her tree.....so it was a perfect fit (sort of, now we are moving into their house in a few months and we have to declutter all their stuff that was given to them as gifts when we had no idea what to get them)
betty
