An Obedient HeartI

1 Samuel 15:22-23a

“Has the LORD great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the LORD?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.

I can remember the first time I read these words.  I was STUNNED!

Rebellion is like witchcraft?  Isn't witchcraft of Satan?  So to complete the circle that means disobedience is from Satan.  That's when I had a 'DUH' moment.  Of course it is...it is also called SIN.  Which keeps us from God which is exactly what Satan wants.  To keep everyone from God.
Look at the first sin...wasn't it disobedience born from rebellion?  Sure was.  God said don't and they did!  hmmmm...every sin is just that---rebellion.  Why do we rebel?  Stubbornness!  Yup, I want to do what I want to do...simple as that.  I've made myself my idol.  OUCH!

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
      And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.

Here's what we should be doing instead...not rationalizing and doing what we think is best...but let God do the directing.  Let go of the director's position and give it to the ONE who already knows the script!  Infact, He wrote it :)

  1. Knowing and doing are two different things, aren't they? We just keep trying!

  2. Like I needed to read this AFTER the messages of today at church. The Lord is surely trying to get our attention, since HE's coming for us soon and we need to be ready for that.

  5. Trust and obedience are so important to God. It's sad that for millions of people it isn't important at all. Thank you for sharing this gentle reminder.
    Blessings,
