Family Favorite Recipe

YUM YUM....gotta love whoopie pies!

My daughter started to make whoopie pies to sell when she was 9 years old.  She was saving for a horse.  She is now 21, she got a husband, but never a horse :(
This recipe was given to me by my Aunt Lucy.  I remember going to visit her as a child.  She would ALWAYS make us whoopie pies!

This same daughter just called asking for this recipe to make for a baby shower she will be attending tomorrow.  Which prompted me to share this family favorite.

6 Tablespoons Crisco
1 cup white sugar
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
3/4 cups cocoa
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

filling:
1 cup Crisco
1 1/4 cups fluff
2 cups confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Cream together 6 tablespoon Crisco with sugar.
Mix together in separate bowl flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt.
Alternatively add dry mixture and milk w/vanilla to creamed mixture.
Mix until smooth.

drop by generous tablespoon  onto cookie sheet.  Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes

Cream all the filling ingredients together while cookie part is baking.  Mix until smooth.

Cool cookie part completely before adding filling.

Please share a family favorite recipe too!

According to Amish legend, when children would find these treats in their lunch bags, they would shout "Whoopie!"
