Disciplines of a Godly Young Man

I've got to admit I was a bit hesitant to read this book.  I thought it was going to be something much different than what I discovered when I finally opened the pages.

This is an absolute, in-your-face, no punches-pulled call to young men to get off of their selfish, entertainment filled world and be sold out for Jesus.

In reality it is more than a book for young men.  It is a book for all Christ-followers who want to get serious in their walk with God.

The author encourages in these areas:
  • relationships
  • soul
  • character
  • ministry
  • discipline
If you want to preview what's in it, click here and find the "Google reader preview".  I think you'll like what you read.

*I received this book as part of the Crossway blogging program for my honest review.

Two encouraging things from me to you

Life has once again taken over which hasn't allowed me to get on here and post much.  I have many things to share just not the time to do it.

I thought I'd share a couple of things that have helped me in the past couple of weeks:

Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it. (Prov. 22:6 NKJV)

Many parents take this verse as a promise from God, yet is it really a promise?  I think's why:

Salvation is God's work, not mine.  I am instructed as a parent to teach, train, direct my child, not SAVE them.  I can only get the soil ready as God wants me to, but it is HIS job to change their hearts.

Instead, this IS a promise from God:
“The Lord says, ‘This is my agreement with these people: My Spirit and my words that I give you will never leave you or your children or your grandchildren, now and forever’” (Is. 59:21 NCV).

Parents, be confident that a wayward child NEVER leaves God's sight, EVER.  He is always there watching, pleading, yearning for them to return.  Don't lose hope. You have a loving awesome God.

Then I saw this picture on someone's Facebook wall and loved, loved, loved it:

I believe there is a difference, do you?

A Piece of Time Review

From the publisher:
This is everyone’s story, not just Lilly Hunt’s.   Like Lilly, who hasn’t endured peer pressure and fought low self-esteem?   Who hasn’t been angry for their losses and heartbroken at losing a loved one?   Whose life hasn’t been impacted with the scourge of an addiction?  Who hasn’t stumbled under the weight of forgiving someone?   Or, harder yet, forgiving oneself?   It isn’t only Lilly who questions why life is so hard, and what IS the point, anyway?   Like Lilly, we wonder—when we set this world down—what will be behind death’s door?  Lilly discovers what lies far beyond that door.  And now, you just may too.
Thankfully, I can answer "I haven't" to many of the questions the publisher asks concerning ourselves and Lilly.  Yet,  many do ask these questions, wondering for answers.  Let  me just say, you aren't going to find these answers in a fictional book...even one that is based on 'some' real-life events.
I can tell you that you WILL find your answers from God and reading His Word, the Bible.
Having said that, this book was an enjoyable 'fictional' read.  Yes, remember, it IS fiction.  The author has an engaging way to capture you to believe that what you are reading could be real.  Maybe some of this could really happen, but don't be pulled into basing your after-life beliefs on fiction.
Victoria Felding, this book's author, is talented.  She weaves characters into your heart causing you to feel their pain and hurt.  She grabs you quickly,  pulling you to turn another page until you come to the end of her story making you thankful that you took the time to read her words.

Spring in the Northeast

For Mother's Day God gave me a treat.

As I opened my door to step outside a swarm of color caught my eye.
There were 20 or more butterflies fluttering around.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera in hand to capture it, BUT later in the day I did get these:

Pami Pocket Review & Giveaway

This cute little pocket can carry your cell phone, credit card, lipstick and maybe even a bit of cash when you'd rather not carry a bulky purse or what you are wearing doesn't have pockets.

You can even drop it into a diaper bag, beach tote or just hang around your neck for safe keeping.

About the Pami Pocket from the website:

The Pami Pocket was a simple idea that came to Pam after she constantly missed important calls. She never seemed to have a convenient way to hold her phone, especially when she was wearing her swim-suit.
She got inspiration from a little change purse on a string she previously picked up at a yard sale.  She had her husband sew up the first prototype in the upholstery shop in their back yard.
After deciding to GO BIG, she filed for a provisional patent, came up with a catchy name and dove deep into product development.
Pam’s dream is that the Pami Pocket will revolutionize the way women carry their cell phones and make every girl’s life a little easier.

My Pami Pocket has found a home in my purse.  No more digging around for my cell phone at the bottom, or some spare change or my credit card.  Now I can just reach my hand in and grab my Pami Pocket full of those needed items.
Sometimes I just want these few items, but don't want to carry my purse.  Pami Pocket is a perfect solution.  Using the long strap, I pop it over my head and around my shoulder and I'm set to go!

If black is not your color, it comes in pink also

If I've convinced you that this is a necessary item for your wardrobe you can purchase one here for $9.99.
You could also win one by entering the giveaway below: a Rafflecopter giveaway

Novica Review

I received one or more of the products mentioned below for free using Mom Blog Society. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

I had never heard of Novica until I was contacted to a do review.

When I went to Novica's website, I was a little overwhelmed with the massive amount of products they offer.  There is tons of jewelry to choose from.  Here are a few examples:  Jade Necklaces, Amethyst Dangle EarringsGarnet Dangle EarringsAmber EarringsSilver Pendant NecklacesWrap Bracelets.

If you're not interested in jewelry how about some unique gifts?  Or maybe clothing?  They offer Wool ShawlsAlpaca Wool SweatersWomen's Cardigan SweatersAlpaca Sweaters and that's just a few of the great items I saw.

OK, so what? There are plenty of sites that offer a variety of items.  What makes Novica different from them?

Well, here is the answer in their own words:

We want to give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their true artistic talents and to spur their creativity. And, we want to provide you with access to unique, hard-to-find items at great values that only the Internet infrastructure can allow.
At the deepest essence of our philosophy, we want to create a bridge between you and the many talented artisans across the globe.
We want you to know about who you're buying from. We want you to feel that attachment to the product and to the hands that created it.
In the spirit of the Internet, let us bring you together.
NOVICA. The World is Your Market.

I couldn't make a choice, so I thought of my oldest daughter who is to be married in August. She has been searching for jewelry to wear on her big day.  When I came upon the wedding collection I knew she would find something there.

She couldn't decide between 2 items, so I told her to go ahead and order both.  Here they are:

These beautiful earrings were made in Thailand.  The packaging was elegant.  The pieces are excellent quality.

If what I received from Novica is a good representation of all their products, you will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't.

You can connect with Novica in a variety of ways:

Week at a Glance is BACK :)

April 29 - May 5

Tim Hawkins is a great comedian.  Here's a sample of what he does.

Somehow he can take everyday stuff and just make it absolutely hilarious. He is a riot. My son bought his most recent DVD so we enjoyed it with some friends this week!

I am a lister in our town. We have until June 4th to have all the values of properties in town documented. Today I spent 4 hours in the office attempting to finish up the last few details. Of course nothing went smoothly...but we were finally successful. Now to return next week and print out all the change of appraisal letters and set grievance day. Should be fun :/

I have spent many hours on a sewing project that needs to be completed is a KING sized quilt.  This is the most challenging quilt I've done.  I'm excited to see it finished!

What was a highlight of your life last week?
