Mark Ludy is a very talented artist as his new book clearly demonstrates.
At first I was unsure if I liked this book, but the more I looked, the more details I saw and the more I wanted to see.
Here is a sampling of the vivid colors, amazing details and awesome story-telling in pictures:
I LOVE THIS!!
The fact that it is a wordless book could be the best part of it or maybe the worst. Best: YOU tell the story with as much or little detail that you choose. No more wondering if the author gets the account correct because you are the author! Worst: YOU tell the story....but you may not know the TRUE account. You may have only seen the movie which isn't an accurate account of what the Bible teaches....which brings me back to the BEST: YOU can pick up your Bible, turn to Genesis 5-10 and read the Author's account of this historical event that has been told and retold throughout generations in every known culture. After you've read what the creator says, you can go back to this picture book and retell to your eager listener accurately. Anything that lends itself to Bible reading is a plus in my book! The only thing I didn't like in this book is the portrayal of the people. Honestly, the faces creeped me out a bit :/ I tried to look this over with my 20 month old, book-lovin' granddaughter, but I think she is a bit young for it as her interest did not last long. My recommended ages would be 6 and above. You can purchase the book directly from Mark Ludy here. Or if you are an Amazon shopper, like I am, you can find it here. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Handlebar Publishing for my honest review.
I saw one of these at a friend's house a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it! So I decided I'd whip one up for myself.
It's really easy to make. Probably took me about an hour to put this one together. I kind of followed this tutorial. When I say 'kind of' it's because I think she makes it a little more complicated than it really is.
Many years ago I attended a high school graduation at a Christian School. A young lady from the church I attended was graduating. I overheard this comment about her as I was walking into the building........
"Isn't it great that she is going to go into full-time ministry?"
My first thought as a wife and stay-at-home-mom was...."What? If she was going to marry and have kids she's not in 'full-time ministry'?"
Sadly, this person believes the lies.
A few months ago a new wife asked for prayer because she felt that she wasn't serving God because.....
As moms our days are filled with pressure from everywhere....the phone, the laundry-dishes-dirty floors, diapers, spills, school, fixing boo-boos, paperwork, errands and on and on and on.......and then 4PM arrives and the daily, dreaded question is posed by someone,
"What's for dinner, mom?"
and I don't have an answer......again. What if I told you there's a book that lays out 52 weeks of meals? Recipes for an entree, side dish and dessert. Fifty-two complete meals. I bet that would make your day..... Well, get ready to have your day made!
Six Sister's have come to the rescue with their new book:
I am not a baker, not even close! I don't understand the 'science' behind baking. Science you ask? Well, of course....when you bake with this you must have that so this will do what it is supposed to do. I just don't know what this and that are :) When I do bake, or have in the past, I always try to make it as healthy as possible. Back in the day that meant no white, processed sugar. Today it means so much more...no dairy, no gluten, no sugar.....ugh! That is just too hard! That must be why I don't bake very often anymore. NuNaturals contacted me to ask if I wanted to review some of their new items. I guess they liked what I had to say about their stevia last year! Oh you missed that? Well, click here and you too can read about the yummy treats I made using NuNatural's stevia. Thankfully, they not only sent a TON of products but recipes to try out these products. One of the items they sent is PreSweet Tagatose. If you have no clue what PreSweet Tagatose is, you are not alone, I didn't either.
I was a bit excited when this package finally arrived at my house, because I didn't know what Biblical Reproductions was going to send to me. Here's what was inside: 'Son of God' Scroll rolled out encased in plexiglass
April 13, 1987....I became a mom. And my life changed forever. Seriously. I never realized how that small child, that little being I was now responsible for, would change me. My thoughts here on that topic....... Then child # 2 arrived on June 12, 1989.....read her story here
Ok, so our family has 2 girls...of course we can't stop there....Gotta try for that boy. Read about the day I heard, "it's a boy" on June 23, 1991. Life took on a whole new dimension with that 3rd child. Talk about 'let's just stay home cuz it's so much easier". If you do the math you will see that I now had a 4 year old, a 2 year old and newborn at home. Can you say,
"will I ever again have time for myself?"
Moms, if you are at this stage and thinking this, let me assure you, you will have time for yourself again, I promise! And when you do, you will wish for the time when you didn't...crazy isn't it?
I am a book lover...always have been. I used to dream of having a room filled with bookcases overflowing with books.
With the boom of technology, books are becoming less and less of a desired item. Sure, people are still reading, but on their phone, tablet, laptop..whatever. The book that you hold in your hand and turn the page is becoming much less popular.
I am known by my family as a penny pinching tipper at a restaurant. I will tip the average 20% IF the service I received was excellent. The percentage drops as I consider what type of service was given.
There have been times that I have left what would be considered an 'insulting' tip....I do that to leave a message....the service was NOT acceptable.
I will reward behavior as I judge it. I am the consumer and I feel that is what tipping is all about.
Well, I guess of I'm the 'older generation' cuz my kids get mad at me when I don't tip well. So I tell them...
"Go ahead and leave whatever you want,
this is what the service was worth to me."
How about next time you and I go out to eat, leave a super generous tip no matter what the service. (ugh, this will be so HARD for me!) If you'd like, also leave a note telling them that you wanted to bless them today.
I know this challenge is not original. I've read several instances of people doing this all over the internet in the last year....so, it's been done, but it is a great idea. I'm sure all the food service people wish it was done every time :)
Have you ever done freezer meals? I did this a couple of times. And of course blogged about it. Go ahead and read about it.....here and here. But today my challenge is this..... In case you don't want to click on over to what the challenge is I'll tell you.... Basically I want you to make a double meal of whatever you are making and share the 2nd meal with a neighbor, shut-in, friend, pastor.....whomever you wish! When they ask, "What's this for?" Tell them "just because I can!". I'd love to hear what you made and the reaction from the person you surprised....
I'm not very good at keeping in touch with people. Life just seems to take over and I don't make the effort to call friends far away.
Are you like me? If yes, the I challenge you today to take the time to call someone you haven't had a chance to talk to in a while. Set aside a few minutes and call them to tell them you are thinking of them.
You never know, that call may be just want they needed :)
1 John 1:7
New International Version (NIV)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
I have never given blood. Many, many years ago I tried to at a blood drive where I worked. I was told that I didn't weight enough to do so. I checked the Red Cross website for eligibility requirements. Here they are:
Have you ever been driving along and come to a toll when you realize you have NO CASH!! That's never happened to me but it has happened to my daughter twice in the past couple of months. How about the next time you pass through a toll you pay for the person behind you. Imagine the conversation when they get home and share with their family what happened.
"you will never believe what happened to me today...someone paid my toll, how cool is that?"
Have you ever had a complete stranger give you a compliment? It's kind of nice, isn't it? How about someone you live with? Now that's could be more rare than a stranger, but it shouldn't be. Give a compliment to everyone that you cross paths with today. Just watch their face light up as you notice them in a special way. You don't have to be elaborate....a simple, "I love your hair that way", or "Is that a new shirt? It looks very nice on you", or even "you really are great at that, ya know?"
Think of someone who you feel has wronged you. That person that when you hear their name you kind of cringe inside.
I'm quite sure you thought of a name.....I know I did. Now pray for God to give you the forgiveness to really, truly forgive that person....YES----THAT PERSON!!!!
Go get a pen and paper...write their name down, the date and the words: I forgive you. This is your reminder that you have forgiven them so put it away for safe keeping, for the time you feel the unforgiveness taking over again.
Forgiveness....sometimes very tough to do. BUT if we think about how much we have been forgiven, certainly should make it easier!
Today you embrace forgiveness and set yourself free from the bitterness and hate. Sure maybe they don't deserve it but
