A new project: Chenille blanket

I saw a picture of a chenille baby blanket and loved the look of it.
So here is my first attempt:

This ideas combines my 2 favorite ideas about quilting....Rag quilting and EASY!!!!

I located a nicely written tutorial with lots of pictures at Aesthetic Nest.

It took me about 4 hours to do all the stitching.  Then a while to figure out how to use the new Ofla chenille cutter I purchased.  I can't imagine cutting without this nifty tool.

I like the finished product although I do wish that the red flannel was green, but because of my lack of choices for shopping all I could find for flannel was brown, off-white and red.

Making another one is definitely in my future :)

I've made a great discovery....

Some of you smarties probably already knew about this, but I just recently found out and I am AMAZED at how easy this is.

It is called a:

EUROPEAN HEM

Now I could go all 'bloggy' on you and write out directions, post pictures and all that cuz tonight I hemmed 4 pair of jeans in under an hour...but I'm too lazy for that.

Plus bellajeanboutique has already made a great how-to video...go ahead and take a look:

The only thing I did different than the video was I cut the extra fabric using pinking shears. Being petite, I usually have to hem up a few inches so there is a lot of bulk.

Is this new to you as it is to me?

Cuddle up with softness from Day 7

As part of the CWA Review Crew
I was chosen to receive this blanket to share with my granddaughter
and give an unbiased review.

Day 7 is a company started by Myrna Harder who has worked as a designer in the textile industry for over 15 years.  Here's a little bit about her:

Through her career, her work has produced over 6 quilting titles, resulting in 100,000 copies of her books, she has produced thousands of yards of fabric for top design companies, and she has designed work for over 30 magazines, with 12.5 million copies in print. You will have seen her work on the covers of many top magazines on your local newsstands. However, as she worked, she felt the increased desire to share her faith in her designs, and a small idea started forming in the back of her mind. 2012 brought a decided change on the direction she wanted to create, and today we can introduce you to the first results of her new direction.

I love how her desire to share her faith even in her designs brought about this cute little quilt for children called "Whales Tale".  As you can see it has the verse Psalm 23:3, "He guides me along the right path"  What a great verse for any young child to be wrapped up in and even memorize to be reminded God is with them everyday.

The softness of this blanket is amazing.  When I gave it to my granddaughter my oldest daughter exclaimed:  "Wow, that is sooooo soft!".  She then commenced to enjoy a game of peek-a-boo.

It comes with a choice of 3 colors for the back:

100%plush polyester fabric, double sided blanket
Original fabric design, featuring a verse from Psalm 23:3
Large 28″ x 34″ size, to wrap around your little one
Wash in cold water in the gentle cycle, tumble dry at low temperature
Do not bleach, iron or dry clean

This soft, cuddly and inspirational blanket can be purchased from Day 7 at their Etsy shop for $34.95.

*I received a complimentary Whales Tale blanket from Day 7 in exchange for  my honest review.

Daily Thanksgiving

Very hard to grasp that today is the first of November.  This is a tough time of year for  me...summer is gone and the long, cold winter approaches.  UGH!

As I rolled over in bed groaning I felt a prick in my spirit to be thankful.  Are you kidding me?  I thought...thankful for ???????   And at once my mind flooded with all my amazing blessings.

I decided that I would take this month of Thanksgiving to be intentional in giving thanks.  If you know me, I lean towards the negative, so this could be a tough assignment.  I also am lazy and have great ideas that I don't follow through with....so let's see how this goes....

While lying in bed gazing out the window upon a gray, dreary, rainy day this song came to mind:

Oh Happy Day when Jesus washed my sins away.

How can I NOT be thankful?

Why I emptied 2 bottles of vodka before 11 AM.......

One of the first things I learned when I began blogging was to choose a title that will 'catch' your readers' attention.

I bet this title is why you are reading this right now!

Am I right?

What 1 Peter 4:7 looks like at MY house

Below is the most recent gift from my husband....now before you say, "what is THAT?"  OR "are you kidding me what a loser husband"  listen to the story behind it.

CrossReads Book Blast: Found Adrift by Pauline Creeden

Found Adrift By Pauline Creeden

About the Book

Welcome fellow drifter. I don’t know about you, but I’m easily distracted. If God set me in a rowboat on the water and told me to pay attention and not let myself drift too far from the shoreline, I’m sure I’d be in the middle of the lake before I realized I’d drifted from the shore. Then sitting in the middle of that lake, I’d realize I didn’t have a paddle. And sometimes I feel so far away that no one on the shore could possibly hear me. Have you ever been there?

And the family grows!

EJ & Abbie's Wedding
7/13/13

The beautiful woman in white is my new daughter, Abbie!  She officially joined our family on July 13, 2013...but she's been in our hearts for almost 4 years!

Gotta say it's sure is different being the 'mother of the groom'.  I am right now staring at the keys of my laptop wondering what to type.  It's hard to explain the conflicting emotions I experienced the day of and prior to my son's wedding day.  And now a month later it seems as if it never happened.  My life did not change as his soared to a whole new level.

So that's 3 married and 2 to go.....hoping that the last 2 wait a while while I catch my breath......

Believe it or not this is the ONLY pic I got of my five kids during that weekend.
AND even worse...
I didn't even get one of all eight of them.

The middle of nowhere.....

Ever been there?

 The middle of nowhere?

Well, if you find yourself there, look me up, cuz that has been where I've called home for 29 years.

You know you definitely live in the middle of nowhere when a trip to Walmart is an all day adventure.  OR when you mention your hometown people look at you and say "Where is that?"  Your explanation of on the border of Canada and NH in a town with a population of less than 200 (maybe 300 in the summer months) and with a grimace they ask "why would you want to live there?"  Um..yea...the middle of nowhere.

It's What's For Breakfast!

This week I ventured into Canada with my mom and a friend for some strawberry picking.  Nothing like fresh picked fruit.

For breakfast this morning I decided I'd have some strawberry shortcake, it's not just for dessert anymore :)

Gramma boasting.....a progression of cuteness

I've been a Gramma for 4 months now and like any other Gramma I think I have the cutest granddaughter to ever hit this earth.  But I am told that I really am correct in saying this.

Homemade healthy ice cream? Can it be true?

I have always loved ice cream...so much so that when I was pregnant with my 4th child I ate so much that he was born with a dairy intolerance.  Since than dairy and I don't get along as well as we did.  I can still eat it but in small quantities and infrequently.

Yummy, healthy snack!

A few months ago I did an 10 day eat clean challenge with Casey Sollock where I was introduced to the green smoothie.  At first I was not sure about adding something green to my fruit smoothie but I LOVE my green smoothies.  A little spinach or kale added doesn't change the taste, in fact, I'd go so far as to say it enhances the flavors.

Recommended Reading: " What Would the Founding Fathers Think?"

For school next year we will be doing our required high school government study.  I have purchased a curriculum to teach about how our government is set up, how it runs, and the various aspects of it's structure.  When I was given the opportunity from MediaGuests to review this book, "What Would the Founding Fathers Think?" I immediately said yes thinking it would be a great addition to our government study.

Art Project fun!

I could explain what this art curriculum is all about, but why would I when you can hear it directly from the master artist, Pat Knepley:

The Christian Mom's Idea Book Review

With Mother's Day just around the corner I've been looking through old pics of my kids and embarrassing them by posting them on Facebook.  Hey, it's what good moms do...which leads me to this review.
