Cangles review & giveaway

As I was surfing around blogsville one day I came across a blog with a giveaway for Cangles.  Just the name piqued my interest so I clicked to be brought to their website.  I was very impressed with what I found.  They have come up with a great way to reuse aluminum cans by making jewelry.  I love it!  I thought of several people who would love to own any one of their products.  They offer 4 categories of bracelets; custom weave, children's, military tribute and save the earth.  Not interested in a bracelet?  Then check out the necklaces, earrings or hair accessories.  As you can see, there is quite an assortment of items to chose from.

I was able to pick 2 items to review.  I chose these earrings:

And this necklace:
Brisk Ice Tea Teal

I was glad that each item was double-sided.  I thought that they might just have the printing on one side and just silver on the other, but not so.  Each side shows the printing.  Being that they are made from aluminum cans, they are very lightweight!  I like this in an earring as it doesn't weigh down your earlobes!

Overall, I think Cangles has a good thing and fashionable!

Meet Me On Monday

1.  What are your New Year's Eve plans?
2.  How tall are you?
3.  What is your favorite pudding flavor?
4.  What room of the house do you blog the most in?
5.  What is your best physical feature?

1. New Year's Eve plans:

New Year's Eve is our BIG celebration for the year.
Besides birthday's, this is MY holiday :)
Every year we have a get-together with family and friends.  We always have something special for the kids to do, something like pinata, gingerbread houses, scavenger hunts, or whatever we can think of.  We play games, eat and laugh alot!  Then New Year's Day is a special breakfast for whoever decided to spend the night.  I look forward to our celebration every year!

I am 60 inches tall!

3.  My favorite pudding flavor:

I like whipped if I HAVE to add pudding to that I'll choose chocolate!

4.  The room I blog in:
The room I blog in is my computer/office/school/tv room.  Soon to be my library also when I remove the chest freezer and have a wall of book shelves.  Hopefully soon!

5.  My best physical feature:

It used to be my hair until I had 5 kids and then began menopause!
Through the years I have been complimented most about the color of my eyes.  They have several colored, green, orange, some brown.

Thanks to Java at nevergrowingold for sponsoring this hop!  It's a lot of fun.

You can join up by adding your Meet Me on Monday page to the linky below!

Once a month cooking....sort of :)

Many years ago when all 5 children were still at home, I was so much more organized with chores and meals than I am now with only 2 children still here.  For our weekly meals I would get the sales flyer, plan my meals for the week then shop accordingly.  Now, well, let's just say that when 5:00 pm rolls around I start asking myself that wonderful question....What IS for dinner?  OR I hear "what's for dinner, mom?"  Sometimes the answer is: "Whatever you can find!"

A few times over the years I've looked into once a month cooking....ya know, when you cook for a whole day to fill your freezer with 30 delicious meals so you don't have to cook every day.....

whenever I have checked into doing it, I don't, because it really sounds like a lot of work!

I've bought the books, looked them over and planned what I was going to do---I've yet to carry it out.  It just seems a bit overwhelming to me.  I love to plan, but the doing is just too much work!  Maybe someone could take my plan and make it a reality?  Someone who doesn't like the planning but the doing?  Any takers????

So you don't think I am a TOTAL loser I have done a variation of once a month cooking by
cooking double or triple of whatever I was making for dinner and then freezing the extra.  Like this week I made 6 meat pies, we ate one, I saved some of the filling out for stuffing the turkey on Saturday (a family tradition stuffing in my husband's family) and froze 4 pies.  Last week I did 4 chicken pot pies and snickerdoodle & chocolate chip cookie dough.

Okay, so there is a start.  I have some stuff ready in my I just have to remember to take it out in the morning to thaw :)

A winner!

Well, maybe this picture is an exaggeration,
a winner has been chosen for the
Glee Gum Candy Making Kit!

Stacy is the winner with this comment:

I like the make your own chocolate kit on their website, looks easy for kids to do.

I found this very touching!

The Shadowed Mind by Julie Cave Review

When I read a book it has to catch me right away or I lose interest fast.  You could say I get bored easily.  I am the same with a movie or even a conversation.  If you can't get me interested on the get-go, you will lose me.
I had a hard time getting into this book, BUT because I am doing a review on it I continued on.  I think it took to the 3rd murder for me to begin to care about finding out "whodunit".
For a reason I don't understand, I just couldn't care about the characters.  My only guess is that I didn't read the 1st book, maybe then I would connect better with the characters.

The storyline involved a heavy topic of euthanasia, assisted suicide and something called neo-eugenics which is the study of hereditary improvement of the human race by controlled selective breeding. There was government involvement and such also.  As I type this review I finally realize why I didn't like this book all that much.  There was too much description about the above mentioned topics, it read like a science book.  I don't like science.

So, if you are into science and government control issues, you may just enjoy this book more than I did.

* I received a copy of this book for review from New Leaf Publishing Group.  Opinions expressed are my own.

Max Lucado Life Lessons Study Bible NKJV Review & GIVEAWAY

If you have read my blog at all, then you know that I love Max Lucado (shhh...don't tell my husband!).  When I was given the opportunity to review his Life Lessons Study Bible I didn't even have to think about if I would or not!  DUH!!!

This is  more than a study bible, it is a Devotional.  There is so much packed in with the scriptures to help you in your daily walk with God.
As the title states, there are Life Lessons throughout.  These are just Max's way of helping you to think a little deeper about what you've just read.
Then there are full-page devotional bible studies sprinkled throughout.  These pages give you an insight as to how God views YOU!
He also provides a 2 year devotional reading program.  A systematic way to read through the entire Bible in 2 years.  I've tried 1 year programs and failed!  BUT I was able to do a 3 year program once.  Maybe I can whittle down to 2 years now :)

These are just the 3 features that I enjoyed the most!  There are also sections on:
  • Christ through the Bible
  • New life in Christ
  • He did this just for you verses
  • New believer studies
  • spiritual growth verses
  • Where to turn when index
  • The "big picture" reading plan
  • How to study the Bible
  • Devotional index

This is a MUST have resource in your Bible study library!
So IF this is such a great Bible, why am I offering it as a giveaway?  Why don't I just keep it for myself?    Well......when I received it and starting looking through it, I realized that I already own one.  Mine was the first edition that came out a year or so ago, so of course I bought it then.  I thought this was something new...but it is has just been given a different name and face, but the inside is exactly the same!  (personally, I don't like it when publishers do that, even though I do understand it is a marketing technique, but, I still think it's a bit "sneaky")
Anyhoo!  Now to how you can own this great Bible study tool!
Naturally, you can buy one by clicking the link above OR you can enter to win this one!

What a week this has been for me and my blog!  My husband turned 50,  I won eye cream from 100% Pure and a $30 gift card from Cangles.  I received 3 books, a card game and jewelry to review.  I sold my treadmill so I could buy a Kinect AND now I'm being featured at Peaches Reviews on Smile with me Saturday blog hop!
I find it fascinating that the first time I am featured it is on a hop that uses a smiley as it's logo.  When I was a kid, I collected smileys.  I have a box full of various items with smileys on them.  I did have them in a room in my house, but my husband didn't appreciate my decorative in a box they went!
So much excitement in one week :)  Isn't this fun????  Well, I think it is :)
Come on and join me!

First off, smile with me :) You made it through another week and deserve a big smile. You've got the whole weekend ahead of you so make it a good one!

This week it's Cindy from For One Another!!

I asked Cindy a few questions about herself and her blog so you could get to know a little bit about her.

1) When did you first start blogging? Why?
I started blogging in September 2010. Years ago I had a dream of starting a magazine called "For One Another".  I wanted it to be a resource of encouragement to others, mostly home schoolers. That never happened.  Until one day  I saw a friend's blog and asked her how to get started. I'm still working towards making it what I dreamed my magazine would be.  Reviewing products has been an added bonus.  I hope to get more involved in reviewing home school products!

2) What's your favorite part about blog hopping?
My favorite part of blog hopping is seeing all the great blogs I probably wouldn't have found otherwise.

3) What's your favorite hobby?
I've done a few "crafty" things, but nothing that I would  consider a hobby.  I like to read when I have time. So I'd say blogging is now my hobby as I MAKE time everyday to blog. Sometimes TOO much time :)

4) Who's your role model?
I don't have a role model.  There are several people in my life with whom I would like to possess a certain quality of theirs, but there is not one person that I would consider a role model.  Actually the only person that possesses every quality I wish I had is Jesus!

Now that you know a bit about the Smiley Hopper of the week... get to hopping!

Amanda's comment #8:
Thanks for recommending this movie, since I have a daughter, one day this might be a movie for us to watch together.

Rebecca's comment #25:
I learned about a great place to watch trailers for good wholesome movies. It is very hard to find good wholesome movies now a days that talk about Christ. I loved watching the trailer at the beginning.
