Little One Books Review & Giveaway

CONGRATULATIONS TO
NATALIE
WITH COMMENT #25
ENJOY!

I am at a new season of life.

The teenage and beyond years.

I'm no longer "in the know"  with what products are offered to toddlers and babies.  I know there is a wide selection of various "must haves", I just couldn't tell you what they are.  Just looking around and listening to new moms discuss all the "stuff" they have for their babies and toddlers is exhausting.

My great-nephew---yes, he IS great in more ways than one!- recently had his 3rd birthday.
I was at a loss as to what to get him. I had NO IDEA what my choices were.  I wanted to buy something useful, meaningful and educational.
I'm not a big fan of all the "make-believe/fantasy" stuff even if he is, BUT I still want him to enjoy the gift I do give him. I wouldn't want him to think, "ugh, this one is from Auntie Cinny".
If I remember correctly, I ended up buying a drawing set with crayons, markers, etc.

After my 3 year old birthday gift dilemma I came upon a great resource called Little One Books. This is the brain-child of Joan McCoy and Barney Cohen who have five grandchildren under the age of seven. They had the same trouble I did, not being in the "season of life" with children any longer, that as they looked for books, music and videos for their own grandchildren, they were overwhelmed by the number of products.

That's why they created Little One Books - to help others make informed choices among the vast amount of material available for young children today.

Barney and Joan have personally selected and reviewed each and every item that Little One Books carries.

They have taken a task that seems overwhelming and made it manageable.  Their website is easy to navigate with a lot of helpful information to guide you.

I especially like their gift bundles.  These themed bundles provide the perfect combination of media geared toward a certain age group. For my 3 year old nephew I could have chosen this bundle:
A CD, DVD and book wrapped in a silver pouch tied with a festive ribbon.

So those of you that need help, here it is!  Head on over to Little One Books.  You'll love what you find.

If you purchase 2 books then you will also receive a free CD titled:  Good Night from the Art of Living Baby series.  All you have to do is enter this coupon code:  goodnight

One reader will win a $25.00 gift certificate to Little One Books.

Four Fill-In Friday Fun

I came across this and liked it.
(partly because I LOVE the beach)
I decided to join up and fill YOU in on a little more about ME!

It'd be fun for ME if you would fill in some of these blanks in a comment!

This week’s statements:

1) I can’t help it, but every time I see _____ I smile.
2) Every time I smell ______ I am immediately transported back to my childhood.
3) When I was little I wanted to be a ______________________.
4) If I had to eat only one meal for the rest of my life it would be ________.

1) I can’t help it, but every time I see a young family with many small children, I smile
I smile because it takes me back to when my kiddos were little.  At the time I didn't do much smiling...more complaining, BUT now I think those little ones are adorable and miss my little ones :(

2) Every time I smell ?????? I am immediately transported back to my childhood.
I don't have an answer to this one...I'll keep thinking......

3) When I was little I wanted to be a clown, teacher and a mom.
My senior year in high school I was voted class clown. I've dressed up as a clown for a parade and a birthday party since (check)

In 1987, I became a mom (check)                                             AND 1989, 1991, 1994, 1998

2010 a mom-in-law

In 1991, I began home schooling with my 4 year old daughter. (check)

I've accomplished all my little girl dreams....guess it's time to go onto my BIG girl dreams ;)
I can think of 2:
1.  Be a grammy! (no control over this one)
2.  Get my teaching degree  (a bit scared to attempt this one!)

4) If I had to eat only one meal for the rest of my life it would be pizza?
I don't like food questions because I eat to stay alive not because I LOVE food!

Strawesome Review & Giveaway

THANKS TO ALL FOR ENTERING
OUR WINNER IS:
SHALA_DARKSTONE
WITH COMMENT #10

Yum, yum yummy......I just love a fresh strawberry smoothie!  I'll drink them anytime of year but summer is definitely the best.  And, of course, they must be consumed through a straw!

I have a hard time keeping straws in this house because I don't wash the plastic ones.  They just don't seem to clean well enough.

I've found a solution to my straw problem when I found Strawesome!

Strawesome manufactures glass drinking straws!

Here is the one I received for review.
Each straw is one of a kind

I have so many good things to say about this company.
But I will only share 2 that most impressed me
  1. They are handmade in the U.S. by a stay-at-home mom.  You go-girl!
  2. They offer a lifetime guarantee...if it breaks, they will replace it FREE!

Here are ten reasons (in no particular order) why reusable glass drinking straws are the way to go:     (From the Strawesome website)
    1. Concern about plastic usage is at an all-time high. Glass drinking straws are one way to limit your exposure to toxins from plastics because they are toxin-free! No BPAs, phthalates, etc.
    2. If you use straws a lot, think about how many plastic straws you throw in to a landfill every year.  Including the instances you dine out at restaurants this number can be astronomical!  Being green has never been so easy.  Replacing your disposable plastic straws with a glass straw is one little thing you can do to help save our planet.
    3. The feeling of glass on your lips will help you lose weight on your hips! Not only is it fun to drink from a glass straw but studies have shown that drinking from something more substantial than plastic may help you lose weight.
    4. Strive to consume more water? Make it fun with a glass straw.  It really works!
    5. Want to help your kids eat more fruits & vegetables? Make it fun with a green smoothie and a glass straw.
    6. According to speech therapists, glass straws help kids with oral development making it easier for them to learn to articulate and pronounce words.
    7. Jaw wired shut or have a hard time eating without a straw? A glass straw might do the trick!
    8. Has your dentist mentioned teeth staining? Use a glass straw to have your beverages bypass your teeth when you drink coffee, tea, red wine, or any acidic beverage and then see what your dentist says at your next checkup.
    9. If you are a smoothie lover, guess what? Yep! Glass straws make smoothie consumption a whole 'notha experience. Perfect for the green smoothie,  protein shake, or any thick beverage!
    10. Want a gift for the person who has everything?  Buy them a personalized glass straw from Strawesome. Drinking straws are great gifts for special occasions like bridal showers, baby showers, weddings, or corporate gifts.
Head on over to Strawesome and check out all they have to offer.  Who would have thought there could be such a diversity in straws?

AND, yes there is a giveaway!  One reader will receive one decorative “artist’s choice” straw.

      Meet Me on Monday

      Questions:

      1.  What jewelry do you wear 24/7?
I only wear my wedding ring.  I used to wear my diamond also, but a couple of years ago I lost the diamond out of the ring while playing in the sandbox with my nephew :(

      2.  Do you twirl your spaghetti or cut it?
Depends on my mood....sometimes I twirl, sometimes I cut

      3.  How many siblings do you have?
3...all brothers!  I'm the only girl

      4.  Were you named after anyone?
Yup, some movie star my dad liked at the time

      5.  Coke or Pepsi?
I don't really like either, but if I had to chose it would be Pepsi

      When did THIS happen

      When did THIS happen?

      You know what THIS is!

      When you

      • can't sleep anymore
      • are clumsy
      • have jumbled thoughts
      • cranky for NO reason
      • just want to be left alone, but with someone
      • totally unsatisfied with everything in your life
      • can't make a decision
      • then when you finally do, doubt it was the right one
      • know that everyone is talking about you
      • extremities randomly go numb
      • face and back break out with pimples
      • totally bored with life
      • have no energy and want to sleep all day
      • talk and make no sense whatsoever
      • go from being a total grouch to unreasonable happiness in a matter of seconds
      • the room suddenly gets so hot you can't breath
      • you wake at night soaking wet
      • random aches and pains that "old" people get, not you
      • can't read that tiny print
      • can't see to thread a needle
      • your hair just won't do a thing
      • age spots?  are you serious?

Sounds like adolescence, doesn't it?  Well, at least a good number of them sound like I'm turning 13  but   Not that!

For sure...it's the opposite end of that....menopause!

What makes it even worse is if you have a daughter on the other end of this hormonal mess....watch out guys!  You may not survive!

---ever notice how women's problems all begin with the 3 letters M E N?
      menstruation, menopause, mental stress

I hate to admit that this silly 'lil cartoon is oh, so true :(

      So very annoying

I hate it when I have a great idea for my blog while I'm lying in bed trying to sleep.
I write this wonderful, witty, interesting post in my mind....then when I get to the computer..

      POOF!

It's gone.  I lose it somewhere between my bed and my computer.

All that wit and wisdom wasted...It's a shame the things you will never get to read because I can't get them from my head to my  hands.  I'm sorry that I am depriving you, but I really can't help it.

Maybe I should get a recorder that I keep by my bed.  When I'm overflowing with great ideas I can just turn it on and record it.
You know, one of those little hand held thingys you see on t.v that the well-dressed executive is using.  Then he hands it to his sexy secretary to transcribe.
I think I NEED one of those. (the hand held thingy, NOT the sexy secretary)  Not for me, but for you my reader.  I can't have you missing out...it's just not fair to you, not one bit!

I'll have to look into it...but it will have to wait, cuz right now I'm saving for a laptop....mine has died.  Yes, very sad, I know.

Thankfully we have a desktop that is still functional, for now.

      The Convenient Groom Review

I choose this book because on the cover it says if you like Karen Kingsbury and Nicholas Sparks you will like Denise Hunter.

Now I have 3 favorite fiction authors...Denise Hunter is definitely in the same league with Karen and Nicholas.

Even though this was story that has been done more than once...the woman who marries a man out of necessity only to end up falling in love with him.  BUT Denise takes this story and weaves in wonderful, lovable characters.    She drew me in with her writing style, made me root for love and even made me tear up a couple of times.

A good read to  pass a couple of hours just relaxing :)

      I highly recommend this book...

*I received a complimentary copy of this book from BookSneeze.com for my honest review

Win a $5 Starbucks Gift Card

I am not a coffee drinker...never have been and never will be!
I can't even stand the smell of coffee....I know, I know, where did I come from anyway.

      I call coffee "Baptist Booze"

When asked if I want a coffee I'll say one of two smart-aleck comments:

      1.  I don't do drugs

      2.  You're putting that coffee in the wrong end
(in case you didn't know, it makes a great enema)

BUT I know that I am a most unusual person.
(those who know me can stop snickering now!)

If you'd like an easy chance to win a $5.00 gift card to Starbucks
every week in March head on over to

      and answer one simple question.

The question for this week, March 14-20 is:

In what ways are you leaving a legacy for your kids to receive when they are older?

      Easy!

And you can be on your way to a cup of coffee
       or
      a wonderfully cleansing enema ;)

      Cowgirl Chocolates Review & Giveaway

      GIVEAWAY
      CLOSED
      THE WINNER IS:
      TO BE ANNOUNCED

I'm inspired when someone takes a passion, or two, and makes a business from that. Marilyn Lysohir took her love of art and chocolate and came up with an "American original, Cowgirl Chocolates...chocolates with a spicy cowgirl kick. She was the pioneer, one of the first companies to offer spicy chocolates in the world."

I am impressed with the uniqueness of the packaging.  Each has a wonderful "western" feel.  Just as you would expect from a product that has the name "Cowgirl" in it.

Who would have thought of adding spice to chocolate?  The taste is definitely one you won't forget.

My first bite was sweet and as expected, chocolatey....but then "BAM" spicy!  WOW...really spicy.

My son took a bite of a caramel....I didn't warn him  HAHAHA.... he was hilarious! After about 10 seconds of chewing he said..."what's wrong with this caramel?  It's HOT!!!"  He loves spicy ;)

      My Sample Box
      Inside beauty
You've got to give these a try.  They are a one-of-a-kind taste experience!

One reader will get the opportunity to try a sample box just like the one I received because Cowgirl Chocolates is offering a 1/3 pound sample box as a giveaway.

      To enter:
Of course, you first must be a follower of For One Another
